The Minnesota Lynx waived rookie guard Japreece Dean, head coach and GM Cheryl Reeve announced Thursday.
The 5-foor-7 former UCLA standout scored two points in the Lynx preseason scrimmage on May 1 at Atlanta and added, two rebounds, four assists and two steals in 15 minutes of action.
Dean, 24, played three seasons at UCLA and averaged 12.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in 90 games (64 starts). She was drafted by the Chicago Sky in the third round (30th overall) in the 2020 WNBA Draft and played last season for Dynamo Novosibirsk in Russia where she averaged 12.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 20.7 minutes per game.
The Lynx have 19 players remaining on their roster, although Maya Moore and Kelsey Griffin will start the season on the suspended list. Rookie Rennia Davis has a stress fracture in her left foot and will be out indefinitely.
Additionally, Kayla McBride, Linnae Harper, Cecilia Zandalasini and Napheesa Collier have not reported to camp and are still playing overseas.
The Lynx are scheduled to kick off their season May 14 vs. the Phoenix Mercury.
