PanARMENIAN.Net - Georgia fully supports the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and, if necessary, can act as a mediator in that process, Nikoloz Samkharadze, chair of the Georgian parliament's foreign relations committee, said in Baku at a trilateral meeting of the foreign affairs committees of Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia.

According to him, Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia have formed a major transit hub, and trilateral cooperation is steadily developing in all directions, APA reports.

Samkharadze stressed that Abkhazia and South Ossetia remain under Russian occupation, and restoring territorial integrity is a top priority for Georgia.

"In our occupied regions, children do not have the opportunity to receive education in their native language," he said.

He also stated that Georgia has condemned the aggression against Ukraine and supported the Ukrainian people.

Addressing the country's foreign policy ties, Samkharadze emphasized that amid crises caused by conflicts, Georgia has faced serious pressure, yet official Tbilisi has remained committed to the peaceful resolution of issues.

"Certain countries and organizations abuse our sincerity. They wanted to push us toward suicidal steps. When we opposed their unlawful demands, they began cooperating with violent groups operating in our country," he said.

On August 8, a trilateral meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, U.S. President Donald Trump and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev was held at the White House, where a joint declaration was signed on the outcomes of the talks in Washington.

In Washington, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, in the presence of the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and the United States, initialed the agreement "On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan."
